Prostatic Biopsy: Medication Information
DO NOT START TO TAKE ANY MEDICATION UNTIL
YOU HAVE RECEIVED A DATE FOR YOUR BIOPSY.
On the day ( usually a wednesday) before your biopsy at 10.00 hrs, dilute
1 bottle of Fleet phospho soda in ½ a glass of water and drink.
Drink
extra fluids in the evening (excluding alcohol).
At 1800 hrs (usually on a wednesday) take 2 Ciprofloxacin tablets
(500 mg total) after food.
On the biopsy (usually thursday) morning, at 0600 hrs take 2
Ciprofloxacin tablets (500 mg total) after food. You will be having the
biopsy on the same morning.
Continue to take the Ciprofloxacin tablets twice daily until the course is
completed.
It is important to complete the course as these tablets are to
prevent infection following the procedure.
CONTINUE TO EAT AND DRINK NORMALLY AND DO
NOT STOP ANY REGULAR MEDICATION

PLEASE INFORM US IF YOU ARE TAKING ANY
ASPIRIN, WARFARIN OR ANY OTHER BLOOD
THINNING DRUGS.
